Disappointing Start for U16 Hurlers

Our first under-16 hurling match of the school year took place on Wednesday the 18th of September, in Ennis Co. Clare. It was the first match of the Munster Championship. Up against Ennistymon the boys were prepared for a tough game.

No more than two minutes into the game Ennistymon planted the sliotar in the back of the net. A goal so soon, the atmosphere turned tense and extremely competitive.

At half time with a score of 4:5 to 3 points, the teams’ spirit was dampened. Never-the-less, after an inspiring talk from Team Captain, Michael O’Brien, they got stuck into the second half with confidence.

Late into the second half an attack started from Eoin Ryan in mid-field. The boys fought hard to bring the sliotar home and finally it hit the back of the net. A tremendous goal by Christopher Malone.

As the game drew to an end the team seemed surprisingly happy. Although the final score was 6:13 to 1:5 they had played to the best of their ability. Everyone was proud of each others efforts and went home content.

Mr.Cullen commented that ‘’the team hurled well but were not able to keep up with the intensity of Ennistymon. We had some great displays of talent throughout the match. He would have awarded man of the match to our corner back Darragh Burke, but all team members played well.’’
