U16 Soccer – Munster League

On the 10th of October our Under 17 boy’s soccer team were playing Borrisokane in a Munster FAIS league. The match was delayed by five minutes starting at 11.05am instead of the scheduled 11.00am because the Borrisokane bus lost a wheel. The referee was very strict about the gear and said, “Not to wear black under garments (e.g bicycle shorts e.t.c). He also said that we should all be wearing the same colour socks”, but never the less our team were confident and looked forward to a great contest.

The first goal was scored by Borrisokane, it was a shot from deep in the penalty box that was buried into the roof of the net. A brilliant goal by the Borris number 9. The team was disheartened but fought hard to retain possession. We had some brilliant performances from our midfielders. Disaster struck 5 minutes later, Borrisokane Scored again. A quick break up the wing by their left back…he swung the ball in and the number 9 stuck his head on the ball and scored his second goal which really put a stop to our attacking football. From then on we were defending, defending and a bit more defending.

At half time our hopes had been crushed with a crippling score of 4:0. There were three substitutes – Evan Butler went on for Jordan Harty who had played very well, Cormac Stanley went on for Christopher Malone who also had a good game & Timmy Esmonde went on for Christopher O’ Brien. Timmy went into goals and Phillip O’ Sullivan went out field. We went out in the second half with a good attitude to the game.

We were looking for a good start but that’s not what we got, Borrisokane scored two goals in quick succession. The team was very disappointed and before the match ended Borrisokane had scored another two goals leaving a final score of 8:0.

Unfortunately we are now knocked out of that competition now. Mr. Keating said, “ that it was a good team effort and we will now concentrate on our other competitions “
